Obtaining Links to Your Site
March 1, 2000
"I found a great site called The World Playground (http://www.world-playground.com) that generated thousands of inquiries for our garbage receptacle products. How do I find similar partners in other niches? How do I find companies looking for links to my page?" -- Marc Shafer, Dawn Enterprises (www.trashcans.com)
World-Playground.com offers links for $440 per year to various kinds of products used in playgrounds, and I'm glad it's working well for you. To find other sites on which to advertise, I'd use this approach, which involves some research. I constantly use Copernic 2000 http://www.copernic.com to speed up and make more accurate searches of multiple search engines at the same time.
- What kinds of organizations use your products? I would guess city, state, county, state, federal government agencies; developers, commercial parks and recreational facilities, RV parks, etc. Search each of these words looking for directories that offer advertising.
- Where are your competitors advertising? Look at each of your major competitors: Pilot Rock, Fusion Coatings, Eco-Products, etc. You can find them by searching on "trash receptacles". Then search on each of their names to see on what sites they show up. Perhaps they've found some sites that will link to them and will link to you, too.
- Advertise on GoTo.com Currently you can get top billing for the words "trash receptacle" and "trash receptacles" for $.03 per click-through, "trash can" and "trash cans" for $.04, "playground equipment" for $.09, etc.
Actually, this is just a beginning. Follow some other suggestions on the Web Marketing Checklist http://wilsonweb.com/articles/checklist.htm
