Low Cost User Testing with UserTesting.com - Darrell Benatar (9:39)

Dr. Ralph F. Wilson - Web Marketing Today - May 12, 2009

In this video interview, UserTesting.com founder Darrell Benatar explains how his web-based user testing tool enables businesses to test users remotely, with results in as little as an hour. He explains how user testing (sometimes called usability testing) allows a website owner to observe actual target customers using a website in order to discover problems or points of confusion.

With the UserTesting.com application, you (1) specify a starting point URL, (2) create a list of tasks you'd like to see someone accomplish on the website, and (3) indicate the demographics of your target user. Once you complete your order, panel members who met the demographic requirements begin to test your site. Typically they'll spend about 20 minutes on your site and then complete a summary questionnaire.

Within an hour some of the test may be completed. You may then download a movie showing their screen movements during the tests, so you can see where their mouse goes, what they click on, etc. You also hear them talking about what they're doing, explaining any confusion they find, problems they encounter.

The price point at this writing is $29 per user test.
