Using Social Media to Create Links to Your Site - Stephan Spencer (8:10)

Dr. Ralph F. Wilson Web Marketing Today - Jun 30, 2009

In this video interview, SEO expert Stephan Spencer explains how social media can produce links, and therefore, higher rankings for your site.

Begin by creating link-worthy content that you seed into the social media. Links continue to come even after your primary social media push as bloggers and journalists find your content. Content requires a hook to catch interest with humor, useful tips, controversy, breaking news, etc. Uses LifeInsure.com as an example, with their article, "The 19 Things You Probably Didn't Know about Death." A Digg power user account will get materials seeded faster. A big spike of traffic is gone after 24 hours (if it doesn't crash your server first), and few sales result.

You're looking for the small percentage who are journalists or bloggers, who will write about and link to your content. These links then create higher rankings that will bring targeted traffic from the search engines, people who will consider buying your product or service.

Stephan Spencer is president and CEO of Netconcepts, a natural search marketing firm, that also offers an SEO technology GravityStream. This interview was taped at the eMetrics Marketing Optimization Summit in San Jose, CA in May 2009.
