How Local PR Can Increase Traffic to Your Site - Lorrie Thomas (6:35)

In this video interview, local marketing expert Lorrie Thomas explains the three steps of getting traffic for local businesses through using local public relations (PR).

Step 1. Create a news or press page where your news releases will appear on your site. This could be in the About Us section, linked on page footers, or using blog posts for news items.

Step 2. Write keyword-rich press releases. Press release templates are available online. Your press release will include key phrases important to your business, with a powerful headline and keywords specific to both your geographic location and your product or service. Journalists rely on press releases written by business owners.

Step 3. Distribute your press releases to local online media. The author recommends www.PressReleasePoint.com, local event calendars, blogs, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Look for event calendars at TV and radio station sites, local newspaper sites, Chambers of Commerce, and Visitors Bureaus.

Lorrie Thomas is the owner of Web Marketing Therapy, a full-service web marketing agency and online education resource in Santa Barbara, California. This interview was taped in May 2009 at the eMetrics Marketing Optimization Summit in San Jose, California.
