How to Set Your Content Free with Andy Beal (6:09)

Dr. Ralph F. Wilson , Web Marketing Today - Jun 22, 2010

In this video interview, marketing consultant Andy Beal explains how you can promote your site by hosting images, videos, and PowerPoint slides on various sharing sites.

"Media rooms" or "press rooms" onn corporate sites make all their content and images available in one place so they are easily accessible to journalists. Beal recommends hosting this content externally with links from you press room to the content on sharing sites.

Now these images can be shared elsewhere and embedded on blogs. The downside is that it makes images somewhat easier to "scrape" without attribution, but they can find the images anyway, if they're looking.

But the upside is big. Search engine algorithms are now indexing more types of content. Hosting your content on popular (and highly-ranked sharing sites) will help rank you content higher than the ranking you could get if it were only hosted on your own site. Since it ranks high, it makes it easier for journalists to find approved content.

Beal recommends putting company images on Flickr.com with titles, tags, and descriptions that tie them to the company brand and website. Then he recommends embedding these images in the company website, to further tie them in Google's eyes. In addition, brand the profile page of Flickr itself with your company brand names and a link to your corporate site.

Andy Beal is a well-known marketing consulting, owner of social media tracking firm Trackur.com and editor of MarketingPilgrim, a popular marketing blog. Beal is also a serious photographer. This interview was recorded 8 December 2009 at the Search Engine Strategies conference in Chicago.
