In this fascinating video interview industry leader Bruce Clay predicts that search rankings will soon not be the prime Search Engine Optimization (SEO) metric. Three factors are converging to bring this about: (1) behavioral search, based on a user's normal 'neighborhood' or 'community,' (2) intent-based search, and (3) universal search. Since each of these trends makes it unlikely that ranking software will see the same ranking as any individual user, ranking per se will fade as the primary way of measuring SEO success, and be replaced by targeted traffic.
