Order Fulfillment for Online Stores

Many storeowners have succeeded in setting up their store online, but few have developed a good system to track orders and product fulfillment. In this issue of Web Commerce Today we explore the various options available.
As I've researched this, I see a huge hole in the small- to medium-size business market for integrating order fulfillment with online ordering. I expect we'll see a number of companies rush into this space in the next year or two, but for now the options are limited.
One option, of course, is to build it yourself. For example, I enlisted a programmer to write an application in VBA (Visual Basic Application language) using Microsoft Access 97 to take raw tab-delimited order files downloaded from Open Market ShopSite and import them into Access. But it's still pretty crude, and certainly not full-featured. In the articles that follow I outline the options available for storeowners at present.
