United States Payment Gateways
Web Commerce Today, Issue 48, July 15, 2001
These payment gateways are primarily used by US merchants only, and are generally available for US dollars only, though I expect that will change in the future.

User Feedback:ORDERBUTTON http://orderbutton.net RESTRICTIONS: None PERCENT OF TRANSACTION: 5-7% TRANSACTION FEE: none MONTHLY FEES AND SET-UP FEES: None INTERNATIONAL: US and Canada vendors, services global. We: compute taxes, offer up to 5 configurable options field, real time shipping calculations, etc... -- MDB USAlso forgot to mention another service you might want to review (or use), Orderbutton. Its fees are less than Clickbank and the download link is not shown until AFTER they pay, which solves the PayPal security problem. I believe I'll switch to it for my main site, and continue to use Clickbank for my affiliates, since it has the built-in affiliate program. -- Diana Ratliff
| iBill United States US only |
Internet Billing Company, Ltd.5701 Pine Island Road, Suite 240 Payment gateway costs 25 cents per transaction for merchants with a merchant account with an iBill compatible bank. Payouts to merchants are on the 26th of each month. 10% of total revenues per month is kept in a client reserve account. A number of product and service types are excluded. |
User Feedback:Regarding credit card processors: We have been extremely pleased with iBill http://www.ibill.com/ Extemely reliable, good member support, no money to get started, nothing to buy, accept five credit cards. They can also set up internet check payments and billing to your phone bill but we don't use them. Many payment to us uptions, we have check made to an individual so our bank does not require a commercial accout (costs money) and we get paid twice monthly. Absolutely no problems reported from our customers. Since they resell out of state, we do not have to mess with sales tax. We have used iBill for a year. Only disadvantage 15% commission plus 10% holdback for six months in case of chargebacks. We just raised our subscription price to our data to cover the commission. -- Bryan US

User Feedback:Have you had a chance to look at the Bank of America Gateway. I would like to know your opinion of it. I found it to be one of the most cost effective gateways out there. My Shoppingcart developer found it very easy to integrate. HTML Form Post and I like the fact that they store all the credit card numbers. I never see them nor do I need to worry about them. -- Rennie Pelkie

User Feedback:As far as payment gateways go, I am an expert. We have many sites doing e-commerce and have tried every major processing company on the net... I can tell you from experience, that nobody beats Netbilling (netbilling.com). Their staff is incredible. The pricing for their services are very reasonable, and their system features and reliability cannot be touched. They even handle all of the customer service inquiries for people who purchase from our sites. They truly have a complete processing system. Netbilling also provides us with variable fraud scrubbing filters so we can choose different fraud filters on our many web sites. -- Mark Monicker US
| Cambist United States US only |

Credit card information is taken on the Cambist site. Requires a US merchant account. Set-up $300, plus the greater of 10 cents per transaction or $35 per month, in addition to bank processing fees. |
User Feedback:You asked about gateways. Our company, an international non-profit organization, called Alternative Gifts International, uses a Novus gateway called cambist. It offers a secure credit card acceptance through real-time and usually within an average of 10 minutes. Some times faster, even while a donor is waiting on the phone for me to varify an order being processed. It seems very reliable. Once a month we can access the password protected print outs and download them for bookkeeping verification. They seem to offer what this organization needs. I don't work in the bookkeeping department but I do process and contact many of the donors. Very few have complaints. The secured system does not allow any of our staff to ever see the credit card numbers so the true security of the system has proven very effective. Refunds and error reports seem to be taken care of quickly and on the average are very small --- 2 percent to maybe 4 percent during our busy months in the fall. -- Rusty Alternative Gifts International
| PayFlow United States US only |

PayFlow Link is a lower priced product that puts the order form on VeriSign's site. It requires a $179 set-up fee and $19.95/month fee for up to 1,000 transactions. |

User Feedback:
We have had several gateways over the past few years. Authorize.net, Cybercash, LinkPoint and Anacom are all gateways we have tried. They are all EXTREMELY LOUSY! We have a high traffic site, and these services are continually down and unavailable. Additionally, they DO NOT HAVE PHONE SUPPORT!! If you need to talk to someone quickly about an outage, you will not get through to anyone. My advice through years of experience: Pay the extra dollar for Verisign. You can't go wrong. The only competent provider is Verisign. They have outstanding customer support and extreme reliability. -- ProNotebooks.com - Ben W. ProNotebooks, Inc. US |

| All of our customers use CyberCash payment services, however CyberCash was recently purchased by Verisign and Verisign is no longer setting up CyberCash accounts. Instead, Verisign is setting up new customers using their PayFlow Link gateway. Verisign's PayFlow Link system is a joke. We have a few customers who were using the PayFlow system however there were constantly receiving ColdFusion errors. Seems the entire PayFlow Link system is written in ColdFusion. I would advise everyone to stay away from Verisign's PayFlow Link System. Hopefully with there recent purchase of CyberCash, they will replace the PayFlow Link ColdFusion backend with the CyberCash Java backend. -- Steve Miller MallSoft.com US | |
| Don't have much experience with non-US payment gateways, but we've been using Signio (now a part of Verisign) for a 6 months. While the system works well most of the time, here are the things we've noticed about the service, that may be useful to others: - usually good response time (few server outages) - poor reporting (not a good way to get reports that list out specifics of each transaction) - aging & clumsy web front-end (frame-based web front end hasn't been updated since we first looked at the demo over a year ago) - occasional strange behavior on transaction clearing (CC clear will fail for some reason, you'll get a canned email from Signio referring to duplicate transactions) Here's a big one for us: Signio/Payflow does NOT allow you to specify per-transaction MERCHANT name. Some systems DO allow you to do this. For example, most of our charges we want to show up on your VISA statement as "sell.com", but if you buy a domain name from us, we want our subsidiary (domaingrabber.com) to show up on your statement. (Funds go to the same back acct). -- Darren Dittrich sell.com, inc. US | |

User Feedback:
I am currently using Ka-Chingg Payment Gateway. I received a lot of help from them when they set me up with the shopping cart and the gateway. The technical support helped me with the HTML code. I have not got any problem. I thought the guy was extremely knowledgable since he took time to explain to me how to avoid credit card frauds and the rules of Visa MasterCard. He sent me a Free Report and I felt very confident buying from him. I also like the fact that it was a month to month agreement. The guy gave me a lot of other things to help me with my online business. Company: www.payquickly.com. -- Andre Plessis

User Feedback:
I am using Intellipay for my gateway because I have a farm stand that I also accept credit cards for. I use both the the virtual terminal and the Internet gateway though my shopping cart on the net. -- David Yaeger, Amishjam.com
| CyberCash United States US only |
VeriSign Payment Services1600 Bridge Parkway, Suite 201 Financially-troubled but well-branded company was recently acquired by VeriSign. Apparently they are now setting new customers up with the VeriSign PayFlow products only, not the previous CyberCash system, though they are supporting the old system. |
User Feedback:Good documentation, does what they say. We use it to batch credit cards rather than in real time. The batching works fine. I've seen cybercash batching working without problems for about 2 years (that I installed). -- Peter J. Schoenster Synapse / InternetOne.net US
