Business Navigation and August Links
Issue 88, August 31, 2000

Dr. Ralph F. Wilson, E-Commerce Consultant Dear Friends,

In this issue we're going to revisit an extremely important aspect of Web marketing -- website navigation. If you get this wrong, you can attract tons of traffic but fail to pull them into your site to take the action you desire -- purchasing, signing up for your service, or a newsletter, or whatever.

The lead article in this issue has been revised since I published the first version of it two years ago. Much has changed since then, and site navigation has become more complex and better understood.

My team of link editors and I have collected 74 links on the subject of Web Marketing. We've not only added these to our searchable database that now includes 7,111 articles and resources in the area of Web marketing and e-commerce, but you can view the collection of August links. They're accessible on the Web in HTML format, http://www.wilsonweb.com/wmt5/08links.htm or you can e-mail them to yourself in ASCII text format by sending any e-mail to our Links Autoresponder. mailto:?WMT_Links

Lecture on Viral Marketing

I'll be speaking in downtown Chicago on Thursday evening, September 14, on the subject of "Demystifying Viral Marketing" in conjunction with Technology Management Associates, Inc. Tickets are still available for the event. http://www.techmanage.com/news/viral-marketing.htm Though no tapes or transcripts are available, you can get a copy of the notes which are contained in my new $12 e-book "Demystifying Viral Marketing," available free of charge when you subscribe to my weekly Doctor Ebiz newsletter. http://www.doctorebiz.com/offers/2books.htm If you can't attend the lecture and question and answer period following the lecture -- and I really hope you can -- at least get a free copy of the e-book. Subscribe to Doctor Ebiz today. It's FREE.

Kind Reviews of Our Newsletters

This last month reviews appeared on two of our newsletters:
  • Web Marketing Today was reviewed by Dr. Mark Brownlow and appeared in IBizNewsletters.com on August 2, 2000. It is the longest and thoughtful review of WMT ever published. http://ibiznewsletters.com/promotion02AUG00.htm
  • Doctor Ebiz was reviewed by Teresa Brusky in List-a-Day, August 25, 2000. http://list-a-day.com/bizarchives/20000825.shtml
  • I thought the blurb was cute that appeared in Bigstep.com Resource Update, August 30, 2000. "Read two newsletters and call me in the morning" was the way the Doctor Ebiz mention ran -- "a newsletter full of practical, no-nonsense advice to help small businesses succeed online."

E-Commerce Articles and Resources

Each month when we scour the Web for articles, we also cull the best in new e-commerce information. Paid subscribers to Web Commerce Today have these mailed to them each month. This month we found 114 articles and resources on these topics:

If you aren't already a subscriber to Web Commerce Today, you're missing a lot each month. Last month I offered my recommendations on the best choices for the new crop of "free" e-commerce software out there: FreeMerchant, BigStep, eCongo, and GoLinQ. http://www.wilsonweb.com/wct4/issue37.htm Web Commerce Today just turned three years old in August, one of the first and premier e-commerce newsletters available. Only $49.95 annually. Picture in your mind an old-fashioned scale, like justice is weighed on. Put a $50 bill on the right tray and subtract a nickel. Now place on the left tray the money you hope to make on your e-commerce dream. Which side is heavier? What is $49.95 compared to a profitable e-commerce business?
